Holiday Hazards

The holiday season is a wonderful time of the year, BUT there are certain things we need to be aware of with our pets. Please make sure your pet is secure when you have visitors. This will keep pets safe and away from the roads. Please do not give your pet bones or table scraps. Bones can become lodged in the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine and can be fatal. Fatty foods, such as gravy, fat, and pork can cause vomiting and diarrhea and a life-threatening condition, pancreatitis. Please make sure your pet cannot chew on tinsel, christmas ribbons, ornament hangers, etc.... These things can cause gastrointestinal obstruction and will require surgery. Chocolate, raisins, grapes, onions, and xylitol flavored chewing gum can cause organ failure. Please make sure you know where your pet is at all times. We are generally more in a hurry to travel somewhere and pets can be accidentally ran over by their human's car. East Ridge Animal Hospital wishes a great and healthy holiday season for our clients and their pets!!!
